Product Details

A good high alpha variety with an acceptable kettle hop aroma. Predominant UK variety normally bred for bittering, but widely used for its high alpha content and aroma.

Development: Second generation selection from Northern Brewer and a male, English Golding seedling.



Usage: Bittering

Aroma: Pleasant but intense English hop aroma

Alpha Acids: 8.0 — 13.0%

Beta Acids: 4.5 — 5.7%

Co-Humulone: 29 — 37% of alpha acids

Total Oil: 1.6 — 2.6 mls/100g

Substitutions: Fuggle, Willamette

Typical Beer Styles: All Ales and Lagers

They have a similar earth taste, but add more bittering._x000D_I use them in my English ales that are a little higher in alcohol, like 7%._x000D_

I use this as a bittering hop. It is very similar to Northern brewer. Not so good as aroma as it has a grassy/earthy flavor.
