If this product sanitizes, why do I need to sanitize after its use?
Jim M on Nov 27, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Gary is correct. There are three levels of sanitation. 1) "Clean" refers to getting chunks and particulates. Even "sanitized" particulates could affect the flavor of your beer. That is what this product will do for you. 2) "Sanitized"refers to killing the lion's share of the bacteria. Enough, that the remaining bacteria could not possibly catch up with your yeast fermentation. Star sans is a what I use to do this since it is a no-rinse sanitizer. 3) Sterile refers to killing ALL of the bacteria. Things don't stay sterile for very long when you introduce them to the open world. Your dishwasher will typically sterilize things if you use the heat, but things do not stay sterile very long when removed. Additionally, some sanitizers still require you to rinse if they use harsh chemicals that may aggressively get bacteria, but are also harmful if drank in large quantities and/or might affect the flavor. Hope this helps.
