Browse 3 questions Browse 3 questions and 2 answersWhat is the difference between Potassium Metabisulfite and Sodium Metabisulfite?BEST ANSWER: The main functions of both chemicals is to add free sulphites to the wine or clean equipment, for that they are very similiar. Chemically they are differnt in their by products, residual sodium vs. potassium, its a matter of prefence, but the quantities used are too small to produce a taste in the wine or beer. I prefer potassium, because of the slightly higher concentration levels, it makes me feel better about cleaning. In cleaning I will make a k-meta water solution in a spray bottle and spray down every surface that touches wine. The other use is stabillization, which is a little more complicated and can change the taste pretty drastically. The amount that comes with the kits is on the lower side of what's needed so the wine will not last for a long time. But you need ph and sulphite testing to determine proper additions or you can over add and get a sulphite taste which cannot be removed. Hope this helps.Is Easy Clean safe for septic systems?BEST ANSWER: Considering what it is i wouldn't go dumping large quantity down the drain, but properly mixed amounts should be ok as to not kill the bacteria in the tank.how do you make a sulfite solution?
