If you don't have any equipment yet, then I would recommend getting a good wine kit. Wine-making and mead-making are extremely similar processes and require the same equipment. I'd suggest:
If you happen to have equipment for making 5 gallon batches of beer, then there isn't much else you would need. Maybe a stirring wand.
