DetailsAn extra stir bar is a good idea in case you are doing more than one starter or as a backup. These things can get lost down the drain when cleaning out starter flasks after being pitched into a primary fermenter. Works great with a stir plate.

over 3 years agoAlways have a backup stir barI have lost a few stir bars and it is a good idea to have an extra or two on hand.February 2, 2014Pick up a stir plate tooThis small magnet is better than the big one because it is much less likely to get thrown on my stir plate, especially at high speed.February 1, 2014Better than the big stir barI tested both and the small stir bar is less likely to get thrown while still generating enough displacement to completely mix the starter and keep the yeast in suspension.November 23, 2013This and a stir plate will greatly improve your startersThe small bar is better than the large one because it rarely gets thrown outside the magnetic field. Just sanitize it before use, and wash with soap and water after use._x000D_October 4, 2013Stirs wellIt rarely gets thrown and sirs up the yeast so there is a vortex. At 2 liters there isnt a vortex but the yeast is still kept in suspension.September 10, 2013Great for 1500mlI use one of these for my 1500mL starters. Works great! I get a great vortex with my stir plate!September 10, 2013Needed for yeast stratersThis is teh stir bar you want, not the big one. The big one can be off center and will get thrown. The small one works well. In a 2 liter flask filled to the top I get a dimple which is pretty good (though a vortex would be better)._x000D_July 15, 2013Good for making startersThe stir bar works fine, doesn't skip and keeps the yeast in suspension in the flask on the stir plate. I use a rare earth magnet to keep it from falling into the wort when pitching.June 4, 2013
