DetailsMedium-full bodied with firm acidity, this Old Vine Zin* shows a combination of red and black fruits--raspberry, blackberry, fig, plum and raisin, along with an intriguing black pepper spiciness on the rich, rolling finish. An excellent match with dark chocolate (try it!), it's also a great barbecue wine (especially chicken), or with lamb, pulled pork or grilled burgers.
*This recipe kit uses a RealGrape pack to boost flavor and body. Because the grape skins are not dried, they take up more space in your fermentor. This recipe requires the larger 7.9 gallon wine fermentor.

4.8 / 5.04 ReviewsGood kit-one shortcomingQuality components, good solid instructions. The "goodness" of the wine is yet to be determined as it is entering hte secondary fermenter today.
Advice: Winexpert kits w/skins kits come with a cheesecloth bag for Skins-pulp-and-sticks. This kit does NOT (although it instructs you use a bag of your own gleaning). Be aware of this, as I was scrambling to find something to use on day 1. Left me a little perturbedMarch 18, 2019Purchased

5 months agoovz wine kitI really can't write a review as the wine is still in secondary fermentation. One comment I would like to make is that this kit will work best with a 7.9 gallon primary fermenter. With the skins pack and the juice itself it nearly filled a 6.5 gallon fermenter.July 10, 2018Purchased

- Customer Q&A
Browse 3 questions Browse 3 questions and 16 answersCan you tell me WHERE the zinfandel grapes are from? (country/state????)BEST ANSWER: The grapes for these would be US-sourced. Primarily California, Oregon and Washington would be the source of the grapes. If they were from a non-domestic source, it would point this out. This is the 1st time I've purchased a wine kit that didn't come with cheesecloth bag for skins. I've done an internet search and can't find one like those included in other brand's kits. Any suggestions?BEST ANSWER: I had previously purchased 8" x 16" nylon bags for straining honey from the wax when extracting honey, The bags are 68 x 68 mesh work great for keeping the skins, seeds, stems and leaves from the juice during fermentation. When finished and the fermentation is complete twist the top of the bag till all juice from the bag is separated into the juice for finishing the wine. I have found this works better than cheese cloth, the nylon mesh will not burst when applying the high pressure to extract the juiceDoes this kit come with grape skins?BEST ANSWER: Yes it does and if you make the kit per directions it will nearly fill a 6.5 gallon plastic fermenter. I would recommend a 7.9 gallon primary for this kit. hope this helps.
