DetailsThe philosophy behind this inspired ale is simple: a slew of iconic floral, citrusy and piney American hops is showcased by a simple yet speculative embodiment of malt. Compelling bitterness is provided by a potent addition of pure hop oil extract, and buttressed with a rigorous doctrine of kettle additions and an ascendant dry hopping axiom. This stately stature of hop bitterness, flavor, and aroma will escalate you to a contemplative frame of mind.
Aroma Massive hop aroma overwhelms the subtle malt character. Citrus, pine, slightly floral. Appearance Light copper color with fair clarity. Firm brilliant white head forms well with moderate retention. Flavor Clean malt profile with very slight hints of caramel. Hop flavor is dominant with gripping bitterness and loads of citrusy, piney, dank and floral hop flavors. Solidly balanced towards the hops. Clean fermentation, very minimal esters. Long bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel Medium body with medium carbonation. Slight alcohol warmth with moderate creaminess. Overall Impression A real showcase for American west coast hops. Hop aroma is evident well before the pint reaches your lips. Complex hop flavors with firm bitterness.

5.0 / 5.04 ReviewsPlinius The WiserOK so being from Vermont I am familiar with some of the very best ales we have to offer (Heady Topper) but I've never had Pliny from Russian River (and want to try it) (hint ! hint!) so here's what I'll tell you after kegging this beer. IF you like Dog Fish Head 90 Minute IPA, this is actually a tad bit better (it's fresher) and the hops are off the chain. A first rate kick ass IPA and FYI the SG and FG were spot on. What a great beer ,I'm happy as hell I ordered two kits!May 27, 2016One of the Better IPA KitsI make this without adding the corn sugar and it still tastes nice and dry to me. Hoppy as hell, one of my favorite beers to make. I've made this kit at least 5 times in the last 2 years.December 29, 2017OutstandingThis beer is hands down the best beer I have ever brewed. First time purchasing from midwest. I am in a small town called Little Mountain, South Carolina. I was a bit nervous ordering from way out here- the grains were bagged well, BUT the yeast took almost 4 days to start (they actually sent me a new bag after 72 hours of no activity), but those west coast hops were as good as they get baby! Already purchased my next brew from them. All grain of course.
The beer is a golden color. The extra kick of sweet pairs very well with the hops up front and the after taste is that west coast pungent bitter. So good.April 20, 2018Purchased

Browse 1 question Browse 1 question and 3 answersWhat's the breakout of grain used in this recipe? Specific grains and amounts?BEST ANSWER: Hey- I think that Midwest has tha mounts on the site. But, I believe it has 14 lb. 20 row, 12 oz. Carapils and 8 oz. Carastan.
We (a brewers guild) purchased this kit and I added an extra pack of Wyeast 1056. We used spring water (Poland Spring) with no water additions. The kit is extremely close to Pliny and a top 2 or 3 brew we have ever made. Excellent!
