Vinmetrica is focused on products for wine analysis. The SC-100A is an instrument and reagent system for the rapid and accurate analysis of sulfite (SO2) in wines. Based on the tried and true Ripper system, the SC-100A puts you in control of sulfite analysis with its convenient, highly accurate and sensitive titration system that alerts you visually and audibly when the endpoint is detected with its electrode. Because it does not rely on a color change, the SC-100A eliminates the guesswork in Ripper sulfite titrations, especially in red wines! Take control of your sulfite levels with the SC-100A!

This kit includes the SO2 Analyzer with probe, Acid Reagent, Reactant Solution, Titrant Solution, 25ml Pipette, 100ml Measuring Cup, 5ml Syringe, 3ml Transfer pipette. Approximately 50 tests.

* Accurate results in 2 minutes or less
* Easy to use, no guesswork
* No mystery solutions or pumps

Works great but, really need the accessory kit
This meter works very well, and makes it possible to measure how much K-Meta to add, instead of just guessing or adding 1 tablet per gallon (or whatever). BUT, it is extremely difficult to perform without the optional accessory kit, which I purchased from Vimetrica directly. 1. the kit has a burette, to add one drop at a time, in place of the syringe, and 2. the kit has a stir plate, which greatly simplifies the adding of the reagent. With the accessory kit, the process is able to be performed and show how accurate the instrument is. I added significantly less K-Meta that what I would have otherwise.

Pricey, but good.
Very expensive gadget, but super easy to use and extremely precise. Much better than tossing in a few Campden tablets and keeping your fingers crossed. The sulfite addition calculation also requires an accurate pH measurement so a meter for that (and calibration solutions) are another expense.

SO2 measuring has made a differance
Alright, it's a lot of money. I have been making fruit and grape wine for about 3 years now. Slowly learning how to make it better. I reached the stage where O2 content concerned me. So I sprung for this machine. It was the natural next step in my evolution in wine making. _x000D__x000D_It does make a differance. By keeping the SO2 levels at around 30ppm, you eliminate the O2 from the wine, and the taste shows the effect. It's just a smoother taste, more fruit flavor comes out, less of that bitter back taste. I was surprised to find that my wine was at 0ppm. Started measuing and adjusting, and it was easy to get to the 30ppm range. The taste is improved._x000D__x000D_This machine is very easy to use. I did spring for a magnetic mixer, which makes the process very simple. I draw the sample, add the chemicals, get the reading, all in a few minutes. It's easy to make adjustments. _x000D__x000D_I like this kit because it's easy to use, and it make a real differance in the wine flavors. _x000D__x000D_I recommend it for anyone wanting to improve there craft._x000D_

I got the Vinmetrica this year (2011), and can't imagine life in the winery without it. It does the job of machines costing WAY more. I have found it to be simple to use, and very quick and mess-free. From a trusted friend's studies, comparing his Vinmetrica reading to those of a formal lab, the results are incredibly accurate (you can read his results on the Vinmetrica website)._x000D__x000D_Some tips:_x000D_-Mark the bulb pipettes that come with the kit with a marker, so that you always use the same pipette with the same reagent. If you cross-contaminate them, they will be ruined._x000D_-For even more accuracy, I plan to replace the two bulb pipettes with 3 ml syringes, and measure exactly 2 mls of each (they apparently don't make 2 ml syringes, as they come in 1 ml, 3 ml, 5 ml, etc., sizes)._x000D_-For more accuracy with the titrant, consider using a 1 ml "TB syringe". The advantage to this is that they are very accurate in minute amounts. The disadvantage is that using one ml of titrant will only allow you to measure up to 20 ppm free SO2. However, it's simple to reload the TB syringe. Any unused titrant can be placed back in the container to use again; just don't contaminate it by touching it to anything._x000D_-When using a syringe, they always seem to end up with a little air bubble, which could alter the accuracy of your measurement. The answer to that is to draw up a flush a few times, which generally removes or reduces the air bubble._x000D_-Invest in a stir plate. I use the "mini stirrer", and it makes things SO much easier._x000D__x000D_Be very careful not to let the two tiny probes in the end contact anything. They appear very fragile. Just take your time and replace the cap carefully. Rinse with distilled water before and after use.

Is there a way to get sulfate level readings from this device?
A shopper on Jan 16, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The Vinmetrica SC300 and SC100 both have the ability to test total sulphites. Additional reagents are needed to do the total sulphur procedure.
Does this device test TA?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, but Vinmetrica does have other models that do test for TA. Midwest carries a simple Acid Test Kit that is pretty cheap and accurate.
What are the exactly are the solutions and concentrations used?
A shopper on Feb 8, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Neither the bottles nor the user manual states any great detail. SO2 titrator solution (.0156N), SO2 reactant solution and SO2 acid solution
