I bought one about a year ago and it works great all the time every time.. Very accurate and keeps the temps anywhere I need them.. With the display a quick look confirms where the temp is at .. It's easy to set and use.. I've brewed at least three lagers with this and all have come out great..

I have this hooked up to a small chest freezer I bought from my brother. The digital readout really helps to keep the temperature dialed in where you need it. It is extremely easy to set up also.

Works like a champ

I bought a wine fridge to ferment beer in the Texas summer, since my house never drops below 77 during the day and 83 at night. It was small and compact and still large enough to hold my 5 gal. fermenter. I quickly found the tempurature control was not accurate enough. This Johnson Digital contrller works perfectly and is completely adjustable and accurate. It works like a champ.

Essential when you live in the desert!

I gave up brewing once I moved to the desert....it would cost hundreds of $$$ a month to cool my house to 76 degrees around the clock in the summer months. Eventually I broke down and purchased a large chest freezer and one of these controllers. The included instructions aren't very clear, but it's still very easy to use. However, I still can't get exact temperature control, perhaps because I'm using a very efficient freezer? I have it set at 76 with a 2 degree differential....but often when I check the temperature it will read 71 or 72? The temperature of the room is between 80 (at night) to 90+ during the day. Overall I am satisfied with this equipment.

Must-Have for Keezers

I built my keezer using a chest freezer, and some 2x10's. This item is absolutely essential if you're planning something like this. It uses the freezer's compressor to adjust the temperature to whatever cooled temp you want. It can also be used with a heat-belt (I believe) to maintains steady fermenting temp, but I haven't used it this way so I don't know how well it works for that. What I can say is that it keeps your brew within a degree of where you want it to be.
Easy to set up, flexible in where you locate it, and dependable. Great item.

Wonk Designed

This device works better at keeping a constant temperature. Not sure weather this added control was necessary because I could still reasonably control the temp with the thermostat in the fridge.
The real problem I have with this product is when it comes time to steep my grains. There are 2 different settings on the controller. One for keeping something cold (fridge), the other for keeping something hot (electric burner). In order to change the setting you must disassemble the unit and reconfigure the shunt setting. Ever hear of a switch on the outside?

A Fantastic Help!

I bought this controller a few months ago and attached it to a wine fridge for ale fermenting. After taking a few minutes to get the settings right, which involves a little instruction reading and taking a few screws off and moving a jumper or two around, the controller has worked like a charm and keeps the temperature in the fridge within 1 degree of the setpoint...always! I live in the mid-atlantic region, so with the wild temperature fluctuations we get all year, trying to keep a steady temp. in the garage just doesn't work...this is a tool I can't live without and my beers have been getting more consistent with much more constant temperatures for fermenting.
