If you want to make hard cider the kit is ok Review by Orson

(Posted on 1/22/14)

Product Rating:

When making hard cider I prefer other yeast but these will work. The kit has the basics although some of the components aren't the best. You will probably end up getting additional chemicals like Pectin and DAP when you become more advanced. But for starting out it's ok.

Don't use the yeast, and the capper isn't all that hot Review by Dobson

(Posted on 12/22/13)

Product Rating:

Although this kit has what you need to get started, you will want to replace the capper with a better one. I'd rather pay the price difference between the red and black capper.

The yeast that comes with it is not very good for cider making. Don't use it.
Personally, I'd get the auto-siphon or a stainless steel siphon instead of the plastic siphon.

Start making Cider Review by Redmond

Product Rating:

My sister likes my hard cider so I got her this kit. She made her first cider and we are waiting to taste it. She likes the kit and hopes to make more cider with it.

Don't forget the pectin Review by Redmond

Product Rating:

This is the Cider kit I started with that brought me inot brewing as well. The kit is ok, just get some pectin, and if you are advanced, a pH meter, some acids, and some carbonate.

Instead of this get the better beer kit Review by Corwin

Product Rating:

That kit has better components like the Red capper and a wider diameter 1/2" auto-siphon. I would also buy better dry yeast than what comes with this kit. When I make Cider I have even used liquid yeast with good results.

Seems ok Review by Andy

Product Rating:

I've been making beer for a while and my dad likes cider so I got him this kit. It seems to have everything he needs and is a good starter kit. The yeast this kit comes with is just so-so, thats the one thing I'd upgrade.

Its ok, but I suggest the beer brewing starter kit instead Review by Chase

(Posted on 4/20/13)

Product Rating:

I make cider and while this kit is ok, its pretty much the same as a beer kit, and the yeast it comes with I would recommend not using. I'd instead use better yeast like the EC-1118.

A gift for my uncle Review by Farzan

(Posted on 3/6/13)

Product Rating:

My uncle is interested in my brewing but likes hard cider not beer. Well he is in luck, because I got him this. We made a cider together and he wants to make more. The kit has all you need to get started, just buy a cider kit and you are ready to go.

A good starter kit Review by Lena

(Posted on 1/19/13)

Product Rating:

I think this is the ideal starter kit. Before spending a lot of money on a hobby, try it out first. This kit contains almost all you need, other than ingredients. If after a year you want to upgrade, there are a large number of choices for you to buy. The yeast that come with this kit are not optimal for cider. Cider yeast are more alcohol tolerant, and have somewhat different nutritional requirements, and make different tastes. Try the Wyeast ACT4766 or the Red Star Cote des Blancs instead.

Get the better kit Review by Phoebe

Product Rating:

This is a bare bones kit, get the better beer making kit, because the equipment is mostly the same, with a better capper, and thicker tubing and siphon.
