A great tool you should have to check your must. I recommend getting 2 of them in case you break one. Easy to read and cheap.

This is a replacement for the original one I purchased from Midwest about 2 years ago, I drop it when cleaning. I recommend getting two and put one away safe. This is a must have to do it right.

Product Rating:

Can't gauge your process with out it. If you use the thermometer strips on your fermentor you have a good idea of the internal temperature. It gives accurate results if its mixed well when taking the original gravity. I sanitize the hydrometer and place it in the bucket so I don't waste a sample and increase head space.

Essential Review by Owen

Product Rating:

Measuring your beer is necessary if you're going to take this hobby seriously, and this is the most cost effective way to get that data. I've found the old fashioned way to be the most accurate, aside from an extremely expensive industrial grade digital refractometer. My only two quibbles: first, you lose about a quarter cup of beer every time you test, and second, the little plastic tube this guy lives in will warp under heat, so make sure the wort is cool.

Standard equipment Review by Jason

Product Rating:

I like to measure my starting and final gravity so that I know how efficient my mash was, and how much alcohol is in my beer. Easy to use, too bad it's not easier to red. It would be better to have A bottling hydrometer, and a mid-range hydrometer.
