Several years ago, Russell Karasch of the Barrel Mill in Avon Minnesota came up with a wonderful idea: Create an oak alternative that delivers as good or better results than the American and French Oak barrels currently used to create premium wines. And he did just that. Not only did he create this perfectly toasted oak alternative, but he did so in a way that gives you unrivaled taste and aroma, while saving you time and your bottom line. Infusion Spirals are made of ultra premium American & French Oakno sapwood, no bark, no knots. This unique process distributes the flavor evenly and can fully flavor a barrel in as little as six weeks.

4.8 / 5.05 ReviewsGreat for giving an oak aged Flavor to BeerI use this when I want to give the impression of a cask ale. Gives the beer a great cask ale taste without having to use a cask. Easy to use, great flavors!October 4, 2013great and easy clean up!I used these to oak a blueberry wine I made and just popped the first bottle from the batch. The oak is very apparent and there was no saw dust or cubes to worry about destroying my garbage disposal when it was time to clean out the carboy. After siphoning the wine out I just turned the carboy over and the spiral fell right out. Next time I may add two spirals to increase the "oakiness"July 15, 2013Good barrel alternativeThese give a great oak flavor without investing in a barrel.February 25, 2013I prefer the French Oak, but this is good tooNice flavor, maybe some hints of sweetness or vanilla._x000D_Aroma was pleasent._x000D_The flavor becomes more pronounced the longer you leave them in, so check on them every few weeks.October 24, 2012Great taste and valueI used two of these to flavor five gallons of a multi-berry melomel and was very pleased with the results. After 6 weeks, oak character was evident, but not overpowering. I intend to age this batch in the bottle for two years, so I can't report on the final results. However, initial indications are very positive and I will use this product (and specifically the medium-plus toast) again.September 7, 2011

If so, what is the best way?BEST ANSWER: I use them to age whiskey. If 100 proof alcohol doesn't already sanitize it I don't know what will. I believe they are ready to drop in.
