Product Details

Great for primary fermentation of a 5 gallon batch of wine or beer. Allows you to watch fermentation activity. Uses a #7 stopper or universal carboy bung.

This 6.5-gallon glass carboy is one of our best glass carboys that keep customers coming back again and again. A staple for your beer- or wine-making equipment, the glass is heavy-duty, doesn’t hold odors or scratch like plastic, and won’t break down over time. Six gallons is an ideal size for a primary fermentation of a 5-gallon batch of wine or beer. And the glass allows you to watch the fermentation process.

  • 6.5-gallon size is ideal for primary fermentations
  • Perfect for beer or wine
  • Easy to clean
  • Uses a #7 stopper or universal carboy bung (sold separately)

Caution: This fermentor is a large hand-formed glass item that can be easily damaged if not used with proper care and handling. It may have variations in shape and thickness, and will show the normal bubbling characteristics of hand-formed glass. Extreme changes in temperature or sudden contact with hard surfaces may cause glass to crack. Handle with care–we strongly recommend using the Brew Hauler for increased safety and ease of handling.

Top notch carboy!

It has a slimmer or narrower profile that I’m used to compared to my other car boys. This makes it nice as I can nest it in other items for storage. It also has a substantial amount of ribbing, which I presume reinforces the glass and strengthens it.

Essential equipment.

While I usually brew 5 gallon batches, this 6.5 gallon carboy gives more than ample headroom for fermentation. I like the traditional metal handles better than the harnesses, but on these guys I use both for extra safety.

Cracked base

I would love to give this 4 stars or better, but after washing it and prepping it for its first brew I noticed a crack in the concave portion of the carboy. It does not appear to go through the thickness of the glass but still certainly something to be concerned about.

Good Carboy at a Good Price

What can I say? It's a glass carboy. But the price is right. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it's a bit taller than my other carboys, which for me created a storage issue and is just a touch too tall for my siphon.

Been wanting to use this for my main fermenter, bought it and am not disappointed. Worked beautifully
