Medium-full bodied with firm acidity, this Old Vine Zin* shows a combination of red and black fruits--raspberry, blackberry, fig, plum and raisin, along with an intriguing black pepper spiciness on the rich, rolling finish. An excellent match with dark chocolate (try it!), it's also a great barbecue wine (especially chicken), or with lamb, pulled pork or grilled burgers.
*This recipe kit uses a RealGrape pack to boost flavor and body. Because the grape skins are not dried, they take up more space in your fermentor. This recipe requires the larger 7.9 gallon wine fermentor.

The kit seemed odd. There was no bentonite or cheesecloth sock, and had a few different ingredients from others I have made. It tastes OK after a couple of months of sitting, but it still has a bit of bitterness that usually goes away after bottling. This kit could have been off, but it tastes more like a light Pinot Noir than a big red Zinfandel. It's still perfectly drinkable, just not what I expected from prior kits.
Having a glass right now. It's delicious and it's only a month. I will be buying more. The customer service is awesome.
Old Vine Zinfandel w/ Skins Wine Kit - Master Vintner Sommelier Select
So husband fills our normal fermentation bucket to six gallons and low and behold the skins are hydrated and juicy!! We overflowed. Twice. Next time we are filling to 5.5 gallons and using our new 7.5 gallon bucket. Not quite done with kit, still clearing, but we can’t wait to drink it!!
My husband and I started brewing our on wine recently. We are wine enthusiasts and being stuck at home this last year we decided to give it a whirl. We are still learning with every new batch and have been throughly impressed with this brand and Midwest Supplies! The customer service is off the charts! We will be bottling the Old Vine Zin in a couple of weeks and will be counting the days until it’s ready. We will only buy our wine kits from Midwest Supplies, they are an amazing company with quality products.
