Coconut in my beer

I Love the taste of a porter and I love coconut. Everything went smoothly until I had to siphon. What is the proper way to siphon when the coconut clogs up?

Great Brew

My wife & I love this brew.
I always put the coconut in a bag. After brewing we put the coconut on a sheet then put into the over & dry out. Great topping for ice cream!
Full bodied & nice mouth feel.
Have made many times now.

Koa Coconut Porter

The beer kit brewed and bottled nicely. I did not like having to strain out the coconut flakes. I would prefer an extract. The finished product was delicious. I received compliments from everyone who drank it.

Great, easy kit

Bought this beer kit the week before the big virtual work from home. Figured I would at least get to brew and ferment... Didn't know I would be bottling, conditioning, enjoying it and still not returning to work. Anyway, the whole kit came well packaged with easy to follow instructions. I do not own a carboy, so I had to add the toasted coconut into the primary. I was a little disappointed that the coconut seemed to soak up a good amount of beer. Bottling was a bit of a pain. The coconut clogged the lines several times. Overall, I am very happy with the beer and kit. It tastes delicious! I would definitely say it is one of my better beers that I have brewed.

Coconut has its challenges but makes a great beer!

It turned out well, and I would brew this kit again. One thing that I did not anticipate: the coconut added to secondary will absorb some of the beer. Plan accordingly. And the coconut will need to be filtered when transferred to the bottling bucket, or you will end up with coconut flakes in your bottles. Despite this, the flavor is spot on, and I would definitely brew this again.
