Just getting ready to bottle. Fastest really drinkable wine I have ever made. Quite dry and very good. I did have a little problem with clearing but filtering seemed to correct that. Very good wine and not bentonite to deal with. God job
Its a great wine
I've been making wine for the past couple of decades. I started when I was 9 helping my grandparents making wine out of the fruit on their farm. I've never used a wine kit before and thought I'd give a couple of them a try. I can't recommend the other one I ordered (Island Mist Black Cherry Pinot Noir kit) because the finished product tasted exactly like that fake cherry flavor from 1980's Halloween costume blood.
This one from Master Vintner is very good. Great buttery mouth feel, good taste, very smooth and goes down dangerously easy. I would recommend this kit to someone who's never made wine from scratch without hesitation. So much easier than ordering all the ingredients separately and doing it all by hand. I'll be trying another kit from Master Vintner in the future if this if the quality of their product line. It would definitely be a solid 5 if it included a better yeast strain that would pick up more fruit on the front end.
this is my second batch of this pinot noir, and won't be the last .very pleased!
I used my own oak mix (of cubes) with this kit: 1 oz of American Medium and 2 oz of French Medium plus. Didn't bulk age it, but used the oak during secondary fermentation for 12 days. That was enough to get a mild nutty, oaky flavor and a good level of tannins.
