Old kit, crystallized fruit essence bag

I'm usually satisfied with Midwest and Master Vintner kits but I received my raspberry merlot kit with over a year old date code (sale kit). I should have carefully checked my fruit essence bag immediately (I will in the future) and found that my essence bag had big chunks in it (could feel it through the bag). Was at the end of my fermentation before final filtering and contacted Master Vintner as well as Midwest. MV initially told me that I'd be receiving a new essence bag and then a few days later contacted me and told me just to heat it up and the chunks would go away. They did, but after adding to my must/wine, I found that the essence bag had separated and half of the essence was between the inside bag and outside liner and had dried there and crystallized (couldn't get the fruit essence out of the bag and really didn't want to at that point). Ended up with about half of the fruit essence and little satisfaction. With oak, extra grape concentrate and corn sugar expense plus my time FYI -Make sure you check your date codes and wine essence bag before starting, especially on the sale stuff.

Exactly what it says it is.

Don't know how people are saying this is a dry wine? Maybe they add the fruit essence bag during fermentation. My wife and I are not wine snobs so this fruity sweet wine was perfect for us. Finished at 8.25%. Everyone has enjoyed this delicious wine and makes perfect spritzers.

One of my favorite kits that I have made. Nice blend of Merlot and Raspberries. I'm going to throw some oak and a little tannin in on my next batch.
