The 3-Piece airlock is the best choice for the primary fermenter, since it comes apart for easy cleaning in the event of a blow-off.
Fill to the line with boiled water or sanitizer to create a closed fermenting system that allows CO2 to escape, but does not allow air back in to contaminate your beer or wine.

only downside is it turns into a fruitfly trap so better have a few extra locks on hand to swap in with a clean one
Easy to use airlock, just mind the fill line, works like a charm. Just sanitize it when you are ready to ferment!
Hard to screw this up. They work great and I like them a lot better than the "S" type for primary's of cider.
