I have been using this strain since the late 90's and have made the best beer I and my friends have ever had. I use a starter at the same gravity as my receipe and ferment at lower temperatures.
Punched pouch and didn't take long to expand. Pitched it and next day it's doing its thing. Tasty
Only drawback is the price. As the yeast is in a fermentor for months when brewing Maibock I spend the money to make sure the batch is worth the time.
I bought 6 packets of this strain for a 40 gallon Maibock lager batch I was brewing......I even prepped it by using the recommended yeast starter kit from Midwest supplies......when I pitched it in my wert @ 55 degrees F. it was a non-starter......don't waste your money on this brand, instead go with Wyeast or White Labs brands and you won't be disappointed
