Won't close without pounding with hammer. No gasket, so seal comes from interference fit, therefore beat it on. Also, if lid had segments in the rim, a gasket, and less interference it would probably work. I covered bucket w/plastic and weighted lid with bricks. Did not know lid wouldn't fit till ready to seal and air lock! arrrrgh
Ordered this at the same time as the 6.5 gallon fermentation bucket. The hole was drilled well and the red rubber grommet was well inserted and created a great seal with a 3-piece airlock that I also ordered. However, the lid does not create a good seal with the bucket. When I have the lid as tight on the bucket as it will go (to the point of pounding it on with a rubber mallet, I can still push down on the lid and have about 1/8" of give with no resistance. I have a strong feeling that CO2 is leaking around the edges of the lid, rather then going through the air lock. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until I had already brewed a batch, transferred it to the bucket and put the lid on. I'm hopeful that the first batch of beer I'm brewing in this setup turns out ok. When I lifted the lid a crack, I could see CO2 activity and the wort has developed a good, solid 1" head, but there is no bubbling activity in the airlock. Gave it 2 stars instead of one because at least it's keeping bugs and dust out of the wort.
This bucket lid is plastic and is a plastic bucket lid. It looks just like the one in the picture. It is a bucket lid alright. The hole and grommet are obviously installed by professional grommet installers. It fits the bucket quite well.
Useless. Check your local hardware store for a better lid
this lid is terrible in it has no rubber sealing so it leaks around the lid. Try to find a lid that has a rubber seal.
