Product Details

Its name means "dark wheat," and that's just what it is. An amber-colored version of a German hefeweizen, Dunkelweizen has the same spicy yeast and creamy wheat character of its pale counterpart, but with as much rich maltiness as a dark Bavarian lager. This kit produces an ale with a hazy mahogany color, medium-full body, and spicy, bready aromas and flavors.

Dunkelweizen review

I very simple wheat beer to brew with surprisingly great taste!

Delightful Floral & Spicy Flavors

Easy to brew with nice aroma- I double fermented and was patient for four weeks before bottle conditioning for two weeks.

Dunkelweizen is Amazing!!!

I took a chance on making this beer if for no other reason than it would be something “different”. I will start off by saying I’m not typically a fan of wheat beers but this kit changed my mind. It has now become “the standard” by myself and all my friends when it comes to beers I’ve brewed. Since brewing this kit now any time I tell anyone I’ve got a new batch brewed and ready the first question I get asked is “how does it compare to Dunkelweizen?” I wish I could explain the different “flavors, hints, and aromas” but I’m just your average beer drinking Midwesterner that thinks this is best described as just different in a great way. I haven’t found a commercially produced version of this beer and I’m pretty sure if one of the big brewers ever produced a beer with this flavor they wouldn’t be able to keep it on the shelves (it’s that good). In the interim I will just keep making this recipe and enjoying it with my friends.

I wanted to like this kit

Overall a good kit. Two things that I didn't like, first I received the kit the pelletize Hops were all over the bottom of the box. Called support and they sent me out a new package of hops which also the seam on the package broke. So I had to buy some hops locally.
Secondly, the yeast (Wyeast 3068) was very banana / cloves flavored. Which I did not care for. I had a dunkelweizen locally that I really enjoyed and I was hoping that this kit would provide that same distinct flavor that I enjoyed but not the case.
I might order this again but I definitely would not order with this type of yeast.
