Product Details

Famed beer writer Michael Jackson is credited with reviving this nearly forgotten old English classic when he wrote about it in 1977. He describes these ebony potables as "firm, smooth, silky, [with] a hint of nuttiness in their complex of coffee, chocolate and roast flavors." If we could describe our Oatmeal Stout more eloquently, we'd be the ones getting paid to drink the best beers in the world.

I keep this one on tap.

This is a very easy drinking “stout”, smooth, slight sweetness. It’s excellent on nitro, holds a great head. I also love the dry Irish stout, but get way more compliments on this one. I have a 5 tap Keezer, and like to keep this on my nitro tap. Good stuff. I’ve done all grain and extract, can’t tell the difference, except extract is MUCH easier. I brew in a bag, and increase mash time to 90 minutes, then splarge a bit, to increase efficiency. At 5 gallons, I’ll do the extract in the future. I like playing with yeasts, and brewed this a few times with hornindal kveik, which makes it very interesting. All the flavors taste “fresher” and a hard to describe, very slight, pleasant fruitiness. My experience with hornindal kveik is it makes everything taste “bigger”. But it’s awesome with Dry Safele 06, 05, too.

The beer turned out great, it’s an excellent kit if you love stout!

I hadn’t brewed a stout in a long time, and this looked good, so I gave it a shot. The kit arrived just as described, it’s pretty basic from an ease-of-brewing standpoint. This was my first time brewing outside (I do 2.5 gallon batches) so was a little nervous, but all went well with the brewing process.

This actually took 4 weeks in primary to fully settle, and I’m glad I waited. When I bottled the beer it was clear and dark, and already tasted good. Two weeks in the bottle and a few days in the fridge then time to try it. The carbonation was a little light so I’m going to wait for the others but the flavor was excellent - dark, great mouth-feel, overall a really satisfying quaff. Highly recommended, will definitely brew again.

A soothing oatmeal stout!

This oatmeal stout is a soothing brew that goes well with hearty sausages, meats, and potatoes. This is my third time making it!
