DetailsA yeast starter will reduce the time it takes a fermentation to begin by dramatically increasing cell count. A starter also allows you to assess the quality and viability of the yeast before pitching. The increased cell count and pitching rate will have many positive effects on fermentation including better attenuation and cleaner taste. Highly recommended for high gravity worts (O.G.>1.060) and lagers. Also the best way to ensure liquid yeast health during warm weather shipping. Kit contains 1000mL flask, foam stopper, 1 lb DME, a 6x9 recloseable bag (to preserve remaining for future yeast starters) and instructions.
Do not apply direct heat to the flask.

4.5 / 5.021 ReviewsBuy a pyrex flask and get your DME from MidwestGreat idea for yeast starters. The 1L size is plenty big enough for the lower OG batches. Have to use a blow off tube and fermentation began in hours not day. The bad is that the flask is absolute garbage. Cant heat it which for me, is not a big deal. Heat the wort in a pan and cool it down before transfering to the flask. The flask is not pyrex and is very brittle. Used it twice before it slipped out of my hand while drying it off and hit the counter top from a couple of inches up and shattered into a million pieces. I got it simply for the ease of it while ordering other supplies. Now I have to spend more money just to get a real flask elsewhere.March 8, 2018Purchased

1 year agoAlways great products and greatAlways great products and great customer serviceDecember 21, 2015PerfectFor the longest time I would just pitch my white labs yeast without a starter. Until my last batch which failed to ferment. My luck had finally caught up with me and I decided to order this starter kit to make sure that never happened again._x000D__x000D_Great basic kit got my starter going great which had a quick and solid fermentation.July 20, 2013Worked as expectedI got this kit to start doing yeast starters. Based on some reviews of yeast overflowing the top with a full 1L starter I did a 700ml starter instead. Worked great and had plenty of yeast when pitching.May 21, 2013Nice simple kitAll you need to make a basic starter. Clear instructions and quality through out. I have just made 2 batches using this and really cant say if the results are any better but lag time seemed less and final gravity was spot on for the recipes I used.April 20, 2013too small!Anyone looking at this 1L, needs to just go straight to the 2L. I wish I would have. Its too small, boil over way to easily.February 26, 2013Works great for small batchesThe product itself is amazing, but the directions with it are not very accurate. Also, I do not recommend using this for any batch larger than 5 gallons as you cannot fit quite enough wort into it. If you are going larger than 5, I suggest the 2L.February 21, 2013Price is rightWas about the same price as elsewhere but without the DME. Satisfied with the product. Dont think it's cheap but its what they ask for one of these flasks out there.January 25, 2013A Must!I believe this is an absolute must purchase item for anyone who homebrews. Combine this with a magnetic stir plate and you have yourself a winning combo. No longer will you have to worry about under-pitching, or your yeast not being healthy enough when it comes time to make that beer. It feels good to know that my "yeasties" are at their best before they go to work. I boil in a pan and transfer to the flask. A 1 liter flask is, in my opinion, just too small to boil in without having a boil over. If you want to boil directly in the flask (which you can do with this special glassware) without the risk of boil overs, I would recommend going with the 2L or greater volume flasks.January 25, 2013
