The tube-within-a-tube design allows for hot wort to flow through the chiller in one direction, while cooling water flows the opposite direction in a cooling jacket surrounding the wort. This efficient design ensures the hot wort is always in contact with a fresh supply of cool water - so no stirring or agitation is required!
With a total of 18 feet of pure chilling power, our Counterflow wort chiller will bring wort down to pitching temperatures quickly.
Solidly constructed of 304 grade stainless steel, its durability far surpasses that of similar chillers made of copper or even repurposed automotive hose. Because of its low flow restriction, this chiller can be used with simple gravity or in a pump-driven configuration.

This chiller is very high quality. The welds look great. I have a Clawhammer system and the element is exposed on the bottom. I was using my Jaded immersion chiller but I didn't like it resting on the element. Plate chillers tend to clog and are a pain in the butt to clean so I started looking at counterflow chillers. The Northern Brewer chiller looked like the best bang for the buck so I took the plunge. I've used it a couple of times. It doesn't chill as fast as the Jaded, probably about 15 minutes to bring it down to pitch temp but man this thing is easy. I just set the pump and let it flow through the chiller while I have a cold one. No more swirling the wort around the immersion chiller. I'm glad I made this purchase.
Decent little wort chiller. Cools down 10 gallons pretty quickly and easy to clean.
I've only used it once, but it cooled 5 gal. in less than 20 min, so it met my expectations
Much better than what I had before. Quick cool down using a pump plus thermometer.
