4.7 / 5.0160 ReviewsGreat for pulling samples/gravity readingsEasy to clean/sanitize, inexpensive, and a great tool to have laying around. Gently place your hydrometer inside the wine thief, dip the wine thief in your fermenter, draw it back out, and you can take the gravity reading right through the wine thief. Then drain your sample into a glass and enjoy. This is also very convenient for carboys/better bottles as they have a very narrow opening.December 1, 2012Must have! This is a must have for anyone who wants to be sanitary about trying their brew before it has finished fermenting. Does that mean it won't fit into the opening of a 1 gallon, glass jug? I do 1 gallon brewing in the glass jug and would like to use this.BEST ANSWER: That is correct, it does not fit into any 1/2 or 1 gallon glass fermentors. The item is too wide, just barely, to fit into the jugs we sell.
