2.6 / 5.05 ReviewsDo not use the sweetner without this warningOK but expensive kit. My issue is with the sweeter provided. I used only 1/3 rd of the packet for a mostly dry cider. Unfortunately, the sweetner imparts an overpowering artificial sweetener taste that I very much dislike. And I only used 1/3rd of the packet.September 18, 2016Recipe kit needs attentionThis recipe kit is a complete mess. It didn't come with everything listed on this product page, and the instructions in the kit didn't even match what I got. First, there's no bentonite in the kit, even though it's in the list on the instructions and on the product page, and it's one of the steps on Day 1 in the instructions. Then we saw that it came with two yeast packets, one Safcider and one wine yeast packet. The list on the instructions said to use the Safcider yeast, but elsewhere it says we're using wine yeast. Needless to say, we were pretty confused. We were going to make our cider on a Sunday, but didn't want to without the bentonite, and of course we couldn't call customer service. So when we talked to Midwest on Monday, they helpfully explained that they had taken the bentonite out of the kit because the other two fining agents did the job well enough. They also explained that they had recently started sending the Safcider yeast instead of the wine yeast, but somehow we got both. That's all great, but why not update the instructions when you make changes? It turns out we had everything we needed, but the lack of organization by Midwest meant we couldn't start our cider when we wanted to.August 12, 2016Missing stuff and confusing instructions. It did not come with bentonite yet its listed and got 2 yeast packets. If you follow the instructions there is only enough oxygen cleaner to clean everything once but you have to have clean 1 time for your primary 1 time for the secondary and 1 time for bottling. Since this is not my first brew I have what is needed and I do have use for the second yeast strain. I would not recommend for a first timer.September 3, 2016Response from Midwest SuppliesMatt,
Thank you for your review. The bentonite isn't needed for the cider kits. The instructions have been changed but some instruction sheets have still gone out with the bentonite step in them. I do apologize for any confusion this may have caused.November 2, 2016Midwest SuppliesFirst attempt at ciderVery easy to make, first tastes were great. Used the safciider yeast and added about 3/4 of the sweetner. If you like a sweeter cider, this is it.My cider before bottlingNovember 2, 2017do not use the sweetnerScore should be negative. I never write reviews but here goes...I used maybe 1/4 of the sweetener and my brew tastes like the really bad fake sugar in the little pink packets on the table at the diner. Wrecked my brew and so total waste of money. really bummed.January 22, 2018Response from Midwest SuppliesWe are sorry to hear that you didn't like the kit. Customer Service will be in touch to help you feel a lot less bummed.January 23, 2018Todd J Staff
