Product Details

Grow your own Columbus hops!

These Columbus Rhizomes are root cuttings of the hop bine; to be planted in well-drained soil with plenty of sun and room to climb, then harvest and dry the flower cones in late summer for your brewing pleasure!

Columbus hops have a very pungent aroma, and clean bittering properties.

Note: Rhizomes will ship directly from the grower starting in mid April. Minimum order is two rhizomes, they can be different types.

Important Notes:

  • Rhizomes will ship directly from the supplier as soon as they are available (typically mid April).
  • The minimum order is two (2) rhizomes. Since these are live root stock, we cannot guarantee they will grow so ordering two of each variety desired is optimal to provide greatest chances of success.
  • Rhizomes will be shipped through the US Postal Service. Please provide a USPS-deliverable address with these orders. If you have a PO Box address and wish to order rhizomes, please include ONLY rhizomes on that order.
  • Due to local restrictions, we cannot ship rhizomes to HI, AK, WA, or ID.

First time hop grower.

Hops arrived a few days after the email notification that the hip orders had started shipping for the various zones. They looked to be in fine condition and were planted a few days later. New shoots appeared 3 days later and there are 8-10 bines already over 3ft tall.

My son ordered this variety last year and asked me to grow it in my garden. I love gardening as much as brewing, so he knew I wouldn't say no. I planted both rhizomes on a slanted hill next to a brick wall and metal security fence. Full sun all day in heavy composted soil. Both started well and then we had some very unusual late flooding, one did not survive. The one that did survive grew into an astonishing healthy vine and produced numerous large hop flowers. The running rhizomes are huge, I will be trimming those back in early Spring and planting next to my porch and trellis. I live in Kansas where the weather goes from one extreme to another, these roots survived and grew larger than I expected. You need some space to grow because these roots take anchor and spread out. Give them a full season, then trim back each Spring and share.
