This malt allows you to add the deep black color of Black Patent without the bitter, dark coffee-chocolate flavors. Use sparingly, just a couple of ounces will give your brew a deep red to black coloring. Use as you would black malt.

Used in a black IPA and had a nice well-rounded, smooth flavor malt flavor. Would use again in several recipes.
Ideal for adding color because it doesn't add the roast burned bitterness of the dark grains. I also use it in Porters and Stouts to lessen the amount of roast barley, making them less bitter.
