The Tilt Wireless Hydrometer and Thermometer is at the cutting edge of new digital devices made specifically for the homebrewing community. This free-floating gadget acts as both a real-time gravity testing hydrometer and thermometer from inside your fermenter during fermentation.
Being able to check your fermentation status from your compatible Apple iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Tilt Pi and most Bluetooth 4.0+ Bluetooth devices means virtually no susceptibility to contamination or oxygen pickup in your fermenter. Data can be saved automatically to the cloud with free Google Sheets template or your own, favorite 3rd party cloud platform. Search for the Tilt app in your app store on your device.
Tilt comes calibrated and fully-assembled with a pre-installed battery. Download the free app, sanitize the unit, drop into the fermenter and start tracking your readings with your synced device.
Multiple Unit Users: If using more than one Tilt Hydrometer and Thermometer at a time, you must use a different color Tilt for each batch. Apps will not read multiple hydrometers of the same color. Midwest Supplies offers 8 different colors for multiple, simultaneous fermentations.
- Range: Ability to send data through large, thick-walled fermenters.
- Precision: Specific gravity is accurate within +/- 0.002 if brewing in the range of .990 - 1.120. Thermometer is accurate within +/- 1 degree fahrenheit.
- Universal: Works in most standard carboys, corny kegs, refrigerators, stainless steel fermenters, even under pressure!
42684 - Blue Tilt
As advertised, unit simple to use and when placed in at start of fermentation you don't have to worry about contamination by opening to get a reading.
Found the unit very accurate and simple to use.
This is my 2nd tilt. It’s a great device if your serious about your brews. Easy to setup and use. Will buy at least one more. But they are expensive and always excluded from specials.
It's expensive, but it works well. The distance from the device to your phone isn't phenomenal, but I didn't buy it to read gravity while standing in a grocery store; nor would it do any good to. If I can seal the beer and let it sit without disturbing it, I try to do so at all costs and this device allows me to. My conical does have a sample port, which I usually use to take both a reading and a taste; but I don't really deem taste all that necessary as I let my batches sit for at least a month. I don't dry hop or add any additives after I have started fermentation (aside from wood), so I just let the yeast/time do its thing. For me, this allows me to monitor gravity to make certain it is dropping and that it hasn't stalled without disturbing the beer. I just need to remind myself to drop it in correctly, because if the "top" is pointed down you won't get a reading (make sure to do that; otherwise your phone will not pick up the device). It's easy to calibrate, and the readout on the ap is bright, and easy to read. The temps are on par with the temp output from the fermenter's gauge.
I have used this for about 9 months now and have no regrets. it is not perfect, but does give a pretty accurate view of what is inside the fermentor. its easy to setup and the battery is supposed to last for months in use and years in storage.
since it floats on top, you will have to accommodate for the fact that the fermentor is colder on the bottom than the top. I have found that on my 7 gallon conical it is about 2 degrees different.
I would advise anyone that is going to use this to buy a tilt-pi. you can get the ras-pi W-zero for about $20 as a kit and flash it with the the tilt-pi software in about 30 minutes. this eliminates the need for having your phone nearby. just set the unit on top of the fermentor and you are golden. this will allow you to log your entire fermentation cycle. I use Brewfather, easy to setup and can be accessed anywhere including the Brewfather app on your phone.
easy to use
can upload date to google sheets or Brewfather website directly.
range inside of a stainless fermentor is only about 10 feet if you are lucky.
Marvelous devise for making my wine - tells me what I need to know without having to potentially contaminate the fermentation - GREAT
