Smoked malt is the main ingredient in German Rauchbier. You may also hear this malt referred to as rauchmalt. This beechwood-smoked malt is the main ingredient in German Rauchbier, and may be added to other brews to achieve a smoked flavor without the use of liquid smoke.

1 pound makes a nice smokey beer, that balances the malt and hops and doesn't take over the beer.

Nice smokiness, not harsh

This is a much more pleasant and pure smokiness than peat smoked malt gives. I like to use 8-16 ounces for a nice smooth smokiness.
