Product Details

Jet-black in the tradition of Ireland's most popular and well-known beers, this stout has a pronounced roasty, coffee-like flavor and aroma, imparted by a generous helping of roasted barley.

Arguably Ireland's most famous export, dry stout has a loyal following all over the world. Our stout kit has a pronounced roasty, coffee-like flavor and aroma, imparted by a generous helping of roasted barley. Hop bitterness enhances the dryness, and the medium body makes for a very drinkable dark beer. This is one of the most popular styles among home brewers; after a few pints, you'll understand why.

A great stout

This is a great kit! Easy to follow steps and a straightforward procedure. The end product is what I hoped for in a easy to brew, good tasting, dry stout!

I keep it on tap, classic and delicious

I don’t know how many times I’ve brewed this, or how many different yeasts. All are good. If you want a straight forward flavor profile, use a yeast that stays out of the way, like SAF-05 or 04. If you want something more curious, try Hornindal Kveik, or Imperial Darkness. Both are excellent, and punctuate dark fruit overtones, like plum, or raisin, very subtle, but you’ll love it. This is a Guinness slayer. Try it with fresh vanilla beans, or 4 oz cocoa nibs or coffee in secondary. This recipe is a great palate for personalizing your home brew. I brew it straight every St Paddy’s Day. I just tapped a nitrogen keg yesterday with SAF-05 and Brewzyme D added, near perfect. I think it does make for a cleaner tasting beer.

Irish stout

Brewed this beer many times. Tried serving it on nitro for the first what a difference! Tastes very close to Guiness

Irish stout

Very dry and hoppy with chocolate and coffee aftertaste.

So So….

I regularly buy beer kits from Northern Brewer. I knew the dry Irish Stout was a session beer. I also know that a myth of “session beers is that they are merely diluted. I know that is not true, but it certainly tasted watered down. I followed brewing instructions to a T, but would not buy again.
