I love kit wines. That being said, I have experienced a quality ceiling for reds at any price point that can’t approach the wine I can make from fresh juice and skins. Until Stags Leap Merlot. It simply breaks through the ceiling. It sets a new standard for full bodied kit reds. Invest in this kit. You will be thrilled with the outcome. And with patience, you will be overwhelmed.
Looks good so far. One bag of oak busted and all over inside but otherwise as expected. Check back in a year for quality report.
Outstanding kit that tastes incredible even without aging
Just finished primary fermentation. Added the oak cubes to carboy but waiting to add clarifiers and k+ metabisulfite and sorbate to allow maximal oak extraction. Tastes good even after racking off of primary fermenter. Definitely need the large bucket to accommodate the grape skins. Will review final product when done.
This is by far 1 of my favorites wines. I made my first batch about 15 years ago. This wine is OK after 8 weeks but needs to age at least a year. The best bottle from the first batch aged 10 yrs and was absolutely the best bottle of wine I have ever drank. I am now on my 5 batch and will definitely do more.
