Hydrometers & Refractometers

Checking the gravity of your wine and the brix of your grapes is critical for any amateur or professional wine maker. With a refractometer you can know your harvest is right on time, ensuring maximum flavor and proper sugar content for the variety. Once fermentation has started, and alcohol is introduced into the solution, your refractometer won't be a good judge for gravity - which is why we have the hydrometer. This handy (and breakable!) tool measures liquid density, which in turn tells us the sugar content of the wine. By subtracting your final gravity from your original, you can also determine the alcohol content of your wine.
